Research on Hungarian Yiddish

I wrote my M.A. thesis in Yiddish studies at Columbia University on the topic of Hungarian Yiddish proverbs. For this empirical study I conducted interviews with speakers of Hungarian Yiddish in New York in 1994-1995. Recordings of these interviews are available in the sound archives of the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research and can soon be heard [HERE]. Although the M.A. thesis has not been published in its entirety, a short article I wrote based on this research appeared both in Hungarian and in English. Between 1995 and 1998, when I was living in Hungary again, I continued to conduct and record interviews with speakers of Hungarian Yiddish in Budapest, Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Pécs, Bratislava, Brașov and some other places. I have not written an analysis of these materials so far, but the recordings can soon be heard [HERE].
